Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is used to treat symptoms of PTSD. EMDR assumes that during a traumatic event, memories may not be functionally processed into our current existing memory networks which can lead to symptoms of PTSD. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (e.g. eye movements, taps or tones) to process these traumatic memories into existing knowledge networks. It is through this reprocessing that distress is reduced and the meaning of painful negative events are transformed.
